There are some who scoff at realist and representational art as merely "pretty picture" work.  "Oh, a painted pretty flower; How nice!" with a heavy dose of sarcasm,  and dismissiveness.  Any work of art can be subversive and sometimes the most subversive art is one that appears "normal".  Think Manet and his painting of Olympia.   That is what I do;  I mess with the viewer's psychology.  As per my mentor,  some of my work needs a backstory  explanation as I use mythology to inspire my paintings.

Recent artist to artist discussion

I have a collaborator  and fellow artists  with whom we have sometimes biting discussions about our work.  Milton Connors MA is the formally trained ( art school in England and MA from U Albany) conceptual artists vs me, the  self taught/outsider artist.  Milt is a brutalist in his approach, while mine is more subtle and subversive.  On the surface my work is more traditional representational, etc. However,  the more you look at my work, the more you get pulled in.  What was surface, is now a fugue of counterpoint of meaning.  In the end, what I paint seduces you emotionally,  to reach other realms of possible worlds.  But that is not for me to say what you are seeing.  My own impression is that of artist who is Autistic.
